6 décembre 2017

This beautiful town set in the heart of England is often over-looked as a tourist destination in the UK, but it definitely shouldn’t be. It has hundreds of year’s worth of history and was the birthplace of William Shakespeare, which single-handedly is a good enough reason to visit. It is situated on the edge of the river Avon, providing a picturesque backdrop to the town.

There are many things to explore within the town including the house where Shakespeare was born, which has been open for tourists for over 250 years. It still has all the original features within it, allowing you to gain an insight into his childhood and the making of his world famous plays. A birthplace pass is available at £15.90 for adults, which allows access to Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Grave, Hall’s Croft and Harvard House. There is also a five house pass for £23.90 for adults, which allows access to all of the above plus Anne Hathaway’s Cottage & Gardens and Mary Arden’s Farm. All tickets are available to buy online with a 10% discount when you book in advance.

Another must see is the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, which is home to the Royal Shakespeare Company who perform a range of world famous plays, including Love’s Labour’s Lost, which is currently being performed. It is open daily, all year round, meaning that whenever you decide to visit there will always be something to see. If your looking for a more informative visit then booking a guided theatre tour will be perfect, as you’ll gain a more well-rounded view of the town. Booking these is also very easy and can be done via their website, where there are many different tours available including a behind the scenes tour, family tour and an after dark tour.

If you wish to make your visit longer, there are many different options for accommodation within the town, from hotels to camping. As well as the chain hotels such as Travelodge and Hilton, the town also features many independent hotels, such as the Arden Hotel, which offers a beautiful boutique-style theme and stunning views of the River Avon. On the other hand, if your more of an adventurous type you may wish to set up tent and stay in many local camp sites which all offer good facilities.
