News from March 2008

31 March 2008
Early next month we will be adding Ruddles Best Bitter to our range of cask ales.  Ruddles Best is an English ale with hoppy undertones and an aroma packed with soft fruit notes, It has a blend of citrus and bitter flavours balanced with a light sweetness that provide a surprisingly full body and clean finish.  At 3.7% ABV, it offers the real ale drinker a great session beer to complement those stronger ales we already have on offer.

Our next guest ale is making a welcome return home.
Morland's Old Speckled Hen is brewed to 4.5% ABV to give it a superb rich malty and fruity aroma. When tasting it you'll experience a wonderful warming flavour that is bursting with body. Originally brewed to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the MG car factory in Abingdon, it was named after an old factory run-around known locally as the "owd speckled 'un".

We know that Speckled Hen will make a welcome return when it's on tap in April.

No sooner has St. Patrick's Day been and gone than we are planning our celebration of England's patron saint, St. George.

On Wednesday 23 April The Fox will turn red and white to celebrate St. George's Day, and we'll have special deals on traditional English food and drink to mark the occasion.

We will be serving roast beef and Yorkshire Pudding all day, served with potatoes roasted in beef dripping and fresh vegetables.  We'll also be offering the Fox's Hotpot based on the traditional Lancashire recipe, as well as other offers to tempt your taste buds.

Then we'll have Hardy and Hanson's Olde Trip real ale on tap as our guest beer.  Full of character, this premium ale has all the qualities you would expect of a traditional bitter from one of England's oldest brewers.  Olde Trip Ale truly is 'the real ale with the real tale'.  Legend has it that the Olde Trip Inn in Nottingham was where knights, rallying to the call of King Richard, stopped off for 'one for the road' on their way to the Holy Land to join the Third Crusade.

Wear red and white to The Fox on St. George's Day, and we'll give you a voucher offering you money off your next visit to the pub.

Celebrate the rich history of England at The Fox on Wednesday 23 April and pick up a bargain.

4 March 2008
We have two new guest ales coming your way over the next few weeks.  The first will be Hydes Jekyll's Gold, an outstanding premium ale.  Brewed to 4.3% ABV, it is pale blonde in colour with a bright citrus taste.

Then later we shall be offering Bath Ales Brewery's Gem, an exceptional bitter brewed to 4.1% ABV using floor-malted Maris Otter barley and Goldings hops.  Gem has a rich aroma of malt and hops, with a long, deep bitter-sweet finish we know you'll savour.

3 March 2008
We are now taking bookings for Easter Sunday Lunch, and bearing in mind how quickly spaces filled up for Mothering Sunday, we recommend that you book your table sooner rather than later.

As always, we are offering all children who join us for our traditional Sunday roast a free Easter egg courtesy of The Fox, so call us now on 01235 821228 to reserve your table before it's too late.

The Fox is going green!  Monday 17 March is St. Patrick's Day, and to celebrate we are knocking 75 pence off the price of Guinness, making it just £2.50 a pint all day.

Not only that, buy four pints of Guinness and you'll win yourself a free Guinness souvenir hat.  We also have free Guinness specs to give away too.*

As well as the Guinness giveaways, we'll have a special Irish theme to our menus, all your favourite Irish music, and much much more to make the party go with a swing.  And being a Monday, our weekly quiz will have an Irish theme too, so why not make a night of it and join us to celebrate the Irish in you?

* Offer available while stocks last

Throughout March, present your Loyalty Card when you buy two large glasses of one of our wines and we'll give you the rest of the bottle for free.  That's a saving of up to £3.95!
