30 November 2007
To accompany our
new menu, in December we shall be adding
three new wines to those we already have available by the
glass:
Delle
Venezie Merlot hails from Italy, and is a fruity red
with the hints of ripe plum typical of Merlots
Joven
Monte Clavijo Rioja bursts with cherry fruit flavours
Pinot
Grigio Blush Ponticello contrasts with the White
Zinfandel we already stock, and is a rose with an
off-dry finish that has proved very popular when we have
occasionally run it at The Fox
This makes a
total of three whites, three reds and two roses available by
the glass, giving you more choice than ever at The Fox.
Cheers!

It's
not yet December, but already we are planning our New Year's
Eve celebrations.
This year, the
theme is Hooray for Hollywood, and we're hoping to have
Marilyn Monroe, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne, Laurel and
Hardy and Shirley Temple in the pub on the night.
Greta Garbo declined our invitation - apparently, she "vants
to be alone" on New Year's Eve!
We'll be
rolling out the red carpet - literally - for the best fancy
dress or lookalike costume, and we'll be laying on food like
at the best post-Oscar party. The fun starts at 7pm on
Monday 31 December - the best day for a New Year's Eve
party!
Join us on New
Year's Eve and celebrate the end of the year with some more
madness and mayhem at The Fox.
28 November 2007
Our new menus will be launched on Monday 3 December,
offering you more than a dozen new dishes to tempt your
taste buds:
On our new
Lunch Menu, you'll find
many more lighter meals:
-
Baby camembert rounds (pictured), deep fried and served with a
homemade cranberry sauce
-
Japanese torpedo prawns, served with a sweet chilli dip
-
A
jacket potato filled with cream cheese and topped
with smoked salmon
-
Beef
chilli nachos - tortilla chips topped with beef
chilli and soured cream
-
The Fox rarebit - cheese on toast but
spiced with our extra special
something!
We're also improving the quality of the ingredients
we use, even for simple comfort food. For
example, we're discontinuing our jumbo sausages,
opting instead to use the Oxford sausages handmade
by our local butcher. So now you'll find
Double Oxford Sausage, Egg and Chips on our
lunchtime menu, and we'll be using the same sausages
in our sandwiches too.
We have
added a new option to our range of beef burgers.
The Rodeo Burger comes with barbecue sauce, grilled bacon
and onion rings, a combination we know will sell well.
Then
there's the Columbo Sandwich, named in honour of the giant
tortoise resident at the hotel where the landlord and his
wife honeymooned earlier this year; a steak and salad
sandwich dripping with garlic butter.
We're
ringing the changes for those who prefer not to eat meat,
too. Our fishcakes will now be made with salmon and
dill instead of smoked haddock, and we
have a new vegetarian
dish - Sweet Potato and Apricot Casserole.
Our
Dinner Menu also has some new
dishes. Grilled lamb cutlets served on rosemary
mash with a redcurrant jus. Barbecue chicken served
with our famous homemade coleslaw and chips is new, as is
beer-battered cod (pictured) coated in our own batter made with two
pints of Abbot Ale. And from December, our steaks will
be served with a large grilled mushroom, cherry tomatoes
grilled on the vine, and sautéed potatoes.
As well as the
sweet potato and apricot casserole available at lunchtimes,
in the evening we'll offer you another vegetarian dish -
Maurizio's Tuscan bean casserole served with warm ciabatta
bread.
We
haven't forgotten your sweet tooth either. How about a
slice of dark chocolate truffle torte served with fresh
cream? Or our homemade cheesecake
(pictured) made with
lashings of mascarpone cheese? Tempting?
And it doesn't
end there.
We have always
felt that our
Sunday lunch is the best
value around, and from December you'll have even more
reason to leave us to do the cooking and washing up on
Sundays.
Roast beef has
always been our best seller on Sundays, and now that we are
switching from topside to the juicier fore rib cut of beef,
it will be even tastier.
We'll be roasting our potatoes and Yorkshire puddings in
beef dripping, giving you even more of Britain's favourite
Sunday roast flavour. What more could you ask for on a
Sunday? Well, how about roast leg of pork with crunchy
crackling and apple sauce. Or naturally smoked haddock
in a mild white wine and mustard sauce. Ready to book
your table yet?
We haven't
forgotten our youngest customers either, and there will be
new dishes on our
Children's Menu too.
All this
starting on Monday 3 December. Come and taste the new
flavours at The Fox this winter - you won't be disappointed.
23 November 2007
We
are pleased to be able to announce that we have introduced a
new draught cider to our range.
Stowford Press
from Westons is a soft and fruity dry cider bursting with
the taste of fresh apples that differentiates it from most
ciders you'll find on draught. At 4.5% ABV, it won't
knock your head off, but it will tickle your taste buds with
the taste of cider as it used to be. If you've tried
Strongbow, Scrumpy Jack, Bulmers or Magners, try a pint of
Stowford Press and be amazed at a refreshingly different
cider experience.

A
very big "Thank You" to everyone who supported our Mammoth
Children in Need Quiz and Raffle last night. I'm proud
to say that our customers generously gave a total of £657.84
to this worthy cause, and I think I speak for everyone when
I say that a great night was had by all.
The Jokers
quiz team (pictured) got into the spirit of the evening and
regressed to the schoolyard, and for their efforts Eddie
(sporting the world's worst Afro) and Hannah each won a
bottle of sparkling wine for their fancy dress. The
evening's star prize, a DVD recorder with built-in Freeview,
donated by Greene King, was won by Julian Moon, one of our
regular evening customers, and many more of you went home
with your arms full of goodies too.
Thanks again
for making this fundraising event such a success, and we'll
see you at the same time next year for more madness and
mayhem.
15 November 2007
We
are on our last firkin of
Ridley's Old Bob, and our
next guest ale will be Greene King's Abbot Reserve. A full-bodied,
mature English ale, late-hopped for a mellow fruity flavour,
Abbot Reserve is brewed to 6.5% ABV, so be warned that each
pint will pack a hell of a punch.
Abbot Reserve
will be followed by a seasonal offering. Hardys and Hansons Rockin' Rudolph
has all the
flavours of Christmas pudding, and was
extremely popular at The Fox last Christmas, so we intend
stocking it throughout the festive period.

An increasing number of our customers are asking for
table reservations on Fridays. Until now, we
have always declined bookings on Friday lunchtimes for reasons of practicality, but it is
clearly a service you would like us to offer.
So, for a
trial period, you will be able to make table reservations on
any day of the week, including Fridays. We will limit the number of tables
we reserve to ensure that our regular customers are not
inconvenienced, but if you have a party of guests who would
like to have lunch at The Fox, please call us on
01235 821228 and we will do our best to accommodate you. |
