It's
taken 45 years, but I have finally snared a bride. Despite the
fact that she doesn't really understand that she's not marrying a person
but a pub, Miss Jenny Burton will become Mrs Peter Kidd on Friday 18 May
2007 - so long as I don't blow it before then!
Jen and I have known
each other for 19 years - in fact, we dated each other for a while way
back then, and you'd think she learned her lesson the
first time round!
Obviously, our big
event will have some impact on the pub, but we have tried to to keep the disruption to
a minimum.
Friday 18 May The Fox will be open as normal on the Friday, when I shall be slipping a
ring onto Jen's finger, and I know the team will
look after you while I am busy elsewhere
Saturday 19 May The Fox will be closed to the general public on Saturday 19 May, when we
will be holding our reception in the pub garden
Sunday 20 May We shall re-open at 11am on Sunday
morning as normal, when I shall be cooking
Sunday lunch, hangover permitting!
Monday 21 May Back to normal - except, I will
have a woman telling me
what to do around here. Like I say, back to normal!!
I know you'll all want
to wish Jen the best of luck in taking me on, and boy will she need it!!
Mr and Mrs Kidd look forward to seeing you all very soon.

Our next guest ale will
be Everards Original (5.2% ABV), which won the gold medal in the Draught
Cask Conditioned Ale category at the Brewing Industry International
Awards 2004.
One of Britain’s elite premium cask ales, Original is smooth,
full-bodied and fruity with a delightful delicate hoppiness. Although
the flavours are complex, no single flavour predominates to upset the
ale’s exceptional balance.
The finish is malty and
sweetish – the colour, a copper brown. An unusually drinkable ale for
one of
premium strength, it was very popular when we ran it last year.

Saturday
17 March is St. Patrick's Day, and as usual The Fox will be going green
to celebrate.
All weekend - that's
Friday 16 to Sunday 18 March - we are knocking £1.05 off the price of
Guinness, making it just £2.00 a pint for those three days.
Not only that, buy four pints
of Guinness and you'll win yourself a free Guinness souvenir hat.*
As well as the Guinness
giveaways, we'll have a special Irish theme to our menus, all your
favourite Irish music, and much much more to make the party go with a
swing.
Join us sometime over the St. Patrick's Day weekend and have a Guinness
- it's good for you, you know?
* Offer available while
stocks last

Our next guest ale will be Tanner's Jack, originally brewed by the Morland brewery in Abingdon and revived by the current owners, Greene King.
Brewed to 4.4% by
volume, it
is a soft reddish brown ale
with a nutty, malty palette, background sweetness and a smooth finish.
It was a very popular guest when we had it last year, and I know it will
make a welcome return when it goes on line later this month.

The
Fox Inn has gone into partnership with St. Michael’s Primary School in
Steventon to promote healthy eating and support the education of local
children.
We have created a special dish
that is low in fat and sugar and high in
olive oil, good for young hearts and bodies – and old ones too!
And each time you order "St. Michael's Tagliatelli" we will donate 50
pence to St. Michael's Primary School on your behalf.
You can find the new dish on our
lunch menu and
dinner menu as a main course, and also as a starter on the
dinner menu, as well as on our
children’s menu, so there is plenty of
opportunity to try the new dish and help raise funds for local kids'
education.
