No
sooner is Christmas over than we begin thinking about the next
special occasion. If Christmas is for families, then St.
Valentine's Day is for lovers, and to mark the occasion each year,
we create a special menu with romance in mind.
We have a limited
number of tables available on Valentine's night, and last year
places filled up very quickly, so we have made our
Valentine's
Dinner Menu available for you to download now so you can
reserve your table early and avoid disappointing the one you love.
To reserve your table,
call us on 01235 821228. We look forward to seeing you.

With
Greene King merging with smaller breweries, more and more regional beers
are becoming available to Greene King pubs. We have taken the
opportunity to add one of these regional beers to our range with the
introduction of Belhaven Best Smooth on draught at The Fox.
At 3.2% ABV, Belhaven
Best is one of Scotland's most ubiquitous draught ales. With its
ultra-creamy head and body, smooth, malty flavours and clean finish, it
is easy to drink and very likeable.
Belhaven Best is the
ideal session beer. Its smooth, beautifully balanced taste and body will
refresh and reassure any drinker – on any occasion.

In addition to our
regular
brands, we also offer Greene King's seasonal ales, as well as
guest ales from other brewers. Our next guest ale will be Batemans
XXXB.
A superb strong bitter
at 4.8 ABV, it has a complex palate consisting of a delicate aroma of
hops delightfully balanced by a prominent malty character. A
five-times winner of the
'Premium Beer of the Year' at
CAMRA's Great British Beer Festival,
XXXB
is a full-bodied ale ideal for the cold winter months.

How
much would you pay for a haircut? Our customers recently paid more than
£2,000 for one for a member of our staff.
Tracey Symm, our Assistant Manager, was
sponsored to have her head shaved for charity, and the event captured
everyone's imagination. A packed house saw her shorn of her long hair,
replaced by a crew-cut that the French Foreign Legion would approve
of.
She single-handedly organised a charity
disco and raffle to boost the event. Customers generously donated
prizes to help with her fund-raising, including a colour television, a
shopping trolley filled with booze, and a football shirt signed by the
England team. One customer, John Morris, pictured above, even paid £100
in cash for the privilege of making the first cut. Justice was done,
however, when he won the trolleyful of booze!
Tracey
wants to thank everyone for their support. “I’m amazed at everybody’s
generosity and kindness,” she said, “especially after such an expensive
Christmas period. The pub was packed, and I couldn’t believe how many
people came along just to see me get a haircut!”
The Support for Sick
Newborn and their Parents (SSNAP) appeal, based at the John Radcliffe
Hospital in Oxford, is a cause close to Tracey’s heart. Her son, Lewis,
was a patient in the SSNAP unit after being born prematurely and
jaundiced.
Further details of the SSNAP fund and its
work at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford can be found at

Over the past 3 years, The Fox has raised
more than £6,500 for various charities, £3,000 going to the SSNAP fund,
but this was such a successful event that we're thinking of making it a
regular event. Anyone for a haircut?

In addition to our
regular
brands, we also offer Greene King's seasonal ales, as well as
guest ales from other brewers. Our current guest ale is Hardy and
Hanson's Olde Trip.
At 4.3 abv, the rich
full flavour of Olde Trip comes from it being brewed using the finest
quality Challenger dry hops to produce a beer that is both rich and
drinkable. Full of character, this premium ale has all the
qualities you would expect of a traditional bitter from one of England's
oldest brewers.
Taking its name from Ye
Olde Trip To Jerusalem Inn nestling at the foot of Nottingham Castle,
Olde Trip Ale truly is 'the real ale with the real tale'.
Legend has it that the Inn was where knights, rallying to the call of
King Richard, stopped off for 'one for the road' on their way to the
Holy Land to join the Third Crusade. Fortunately, Olde Trip isn't
just reserved for the Middle Ages but can be savoured today at The Fox
Inn.

Following
Greene King's decision to reduced the strength of Morland's Old Speckled
Hen, we have decided to retain our current guest ale, Greene King's
Abbot
Ale,
as our regular premium ale at The Fox.
Greene King's flagship
brand,
Abbot Ale is a favourite with the nation's discerning beer drinker.
At 5.0% ABV, Abbot Ale is brewed with pale crystal and amber malts
to give an attractive colour and rich malty taste. Challenger hops give it
bitterness with a spicy overtone, and to really boost the taste and
aroma to the maximum it is late-hopped with Fuggles to provide the
floral tones and fruity esters. Full flavoured, smooth
and mature, Abbot Ale is an exceptional, quality drink that we are sure
will go down well with beer lovers at The Fox.
Our
fundraising begins again early in the New Year, when our assistant
manager, Tracey Symm, has organised a charity disco and raffle at The
Fox. In addition, Tracey will be having her head shaved on the night
too, all proceeds from the evening going to the Support for Sick Newborn
and their Parents (SSNAP) appeal based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in
Oxford.
There will be fun all
evening at The Fox on Friday 12 January, with donations to the fundraising
being taken on the door. We hope as many people as possible will come
along to support Tracey in her efforts - and to see what she looks like
with no hair!
