Our current guest ale
is Brains's Reverend James. Full bodied and warming, rich in
palate, spicy and aromatic with a deeply satisfying finish, this premium
ale is brewed to 4.5% ABV, and has been described as having a "classic"
flavour not commonly available these days.
The roots of Buckleys
Brewery trace back to 1767, when, under the ownership of Henry Child, a
prominent Methodist, the company began to brew beer in Llanelli. The
Reverend James Buckley later took on the serious development of the
brewery after his marriage to Child's daughter, Maria.
A traditional centuries
old recipe is followed to brew this premium ale, now proving to be a
highly desirable guest throughout the UK, and we're sure our customers
will approve.

I
trust you all had a good Christmas and that the post-New Year hangover
was worth it. I'd
like to thank everyone for their kind comments and compliments on the
standard of our celebrations last year. It was only my second Christmas
at The Fox, and I was pleased that so many of you felt we had given you
such a good start to your Christmas celebrations.
We like to stay ahead of
the field here at The Fox, and our menu for
Christmas 2006 is already available for you. Having listened to your comments, we shall be
serving roast parsnips and bread sauce with this year's meals.
Interested? Then
download the menu and take a look. If it appeals, call
us on 01235 821228 to check availability, and if you confirm your booking
before the end of October we'll give you a free three-course meal for
two next January.
Get Christmas 2006 wrapped up
and save money on your Christmas spending. We look forward
to hearing from you.
Today we launch our new
bar menu, with more than a dozen new or
improved meals and sandwiches for you to try.
We've improved our already popular Sausages and Mash, now using Old
Oxford Sausages handmade by our local butcher, Calnan Brothers of
Didcot. We are now using their Honey-roasted Ham for our
sandwiches and meals, too.
Also from Calnans comes the Italian Salami on our new Deli Platter -
cold meats and cheeses served with pickles, olives and sun-dried
tomatoes as a starter to keep to yourself or to share with friends.
We've introduced two new saucy meals to be served with rice, pasta
or a jacket potato. Our new Beef Chilli is homemade to our own
recipe, and is for those who like their chilli hot and spicy.
We've also added a Sweet and Sour dish, homemade with your choice of
chicken or vegetables.
We
have joined Europe, now, too, offering English, French and Italian
ploughman's lunches by adding French Brie and Italian Salami to our
ploughman's basket meals.
And we've enlarged our burger menu - and in more ways than one.
Our burgers are no longer the standard quarter-pounder
you can find almost anywhere; now, when you order a burger at the
Fox, you'll receive a 6oz burger handmade by Calnan Brothers -
that's 50% bigger. But that's not all. We now offer a Breakfast Burger (Burger,
Bacon and Egg) and a Black and
Blue Burger (Burger with Black Pudding and Stilton).
Finally, we have added three new sandwiches to the menu - Steak and
Egg, Brie, Bacon and Cranberry, and Cheddar Cheese and Marmite.
All our most popular sandwiches are still there - Ham, Egg and Chip
(now with Honey-roasted Ham), Fish Fingers, Steak and Onion, even
the infamous
Janet Special are all still on the menu. So too are
our most popular main meals - our Homemade Steak and Guinness Pie is
always very popular, as are our Lasagne (made with beef or vegetables) and
Salmon and Dill Fishcakes.
Call in soon so see what's on the menu at The Fox, your
award-winning
local.

On Thursday 2 February, The Fox Inn,
Steventon received the award for the Best Newcomer in the Central
television region.
More
than 1,000 people representing the very best in the pub trade
gathered at the Morning Advertiser’s* Best Pub Awards Ceremony in
London, where a total of thirty awards were made for excellence in
categories as diverse as Best Wine Pub, Best Food Pub and Best
Fundraising Pub.
In making the award, The Morning
Advertiser applauded our work at The Fox, saying that 'tireless
efforts to make The Fox Inn at Steventon a success story won the
judges approval,' and it's certainly true that our success has been a team
effort. To receive any award from one’s peers is a tremendous
compliment, and I'm sure our customers will add their
congratulations to mine when I say that it’s the people working at
The Fox that have earned us this award.
This is the last time The Fox can be
considered for this award, so what's next? When I look around
I see so much we have done in the past two years, but I
also see
many more improvements we can make. We launch a new bar menu this
month, and are reviewing our restaurant menu ready for the summer,
so there is plenty to do as the weather improves. Fortunately I
have a fantastic team of staff, and some very loyal customers, so
given a little time I'm sure The Fox will be considered for even
more awards in years to come.
We're planning a party at the end of March to celebrate
my second anniversary at The Fox and to thank both staff and
customers for their support in making The Fox Inn the Central
region's Best Newcomer for 2006.
*The Morning Advertiser is the national newspaper serving the
licensed trade, and the Newcomer of the Year award is open to
licensees who have been in the trade for less than two years.
