News from December 2006

24 December 2006
In addition to our regular brands, we also offer Greene King's seasonal ales, as well as guest ales from other brewers.  Our current guest ale is Greene King Abbot Ale.

At 5.0% ABV, Abbot is brewed with pale crystal and amber malts to give an attractive colour and rich malty taste. Challenger hops give it bitterness with a spicy overtone, and to really boost the taste and aroma to the maximum it is late-hopped with Fuggles to provide the floral tones and fruity esters.

Full flavoured, smooth and mature, Abbot Ale is an exceptional, quality drink. No wonder this beer is the first choice for so many discerning real ale lovers.

Greene King's flagship brand, Abbot Ale is a favourite with the nation's discerning beer drinker. An iconic beer, it is brewed for longer in a traditional way in order to achieve its distinctive taste.

On Friday 17 November, Nic Gibbs, our Head Chef, donated himself as a slave to cook dinner at one lucky person's home as part of our Children in Need fundraising activities.

Nic's services were bought by Karen Boyle of Timsbury Close, Steventon, and yesterday was the big day, so Nic travelled across the High Street to prepare a buffet in Karen's home for her James Bond-themed Christmas party for forty friends.

However Karen had made one condition on her purchase: that Nic cooked her dinner in only a thong.

Well, Nic is nothing if not game, and sure enough, dressed only in a thong beneath his chef's whites, last night he was to be found bent over a stove in Karen's kitchen.  Not a pretty thought, and for those who can't picture the scene, here is Nic taking a restorative beer  after his ... errum ... performance.

Thanks, Nic, for being such a good sport, and to Karen, too, for her generous bid of £90 for her slave, and not forgetting John Morris who paid £50 to Children in Need for an invitation to the party.

In fact, thanks to everyone who played their part in our Children in Need fundraising this year.  You raised a total of £1,246.85 for the charity, and we look forward to next year's event with a certain degree of trepidation!

In addition to our regular brands, we also offer Greene King's seasonal ales, as well as guest ales from other brewers.  Our current guest ale is Greene King Fireside.

Ruby in colour, with a robust and refreshing taste, Fireside's citrus hops leave a mellow, fruity linger on the palate.  It is a full-bodied mature English ale brewed to 4.5% by volume, and late-hopped for a malty, fruity flavour.  A great winter warmer.
