Every
week, the BIG Quiz
offers all participants a chance to win the rolling jackpot. Some
weeks it's won; some weeks it rolls over to the following week.
On Bank Holiday Monday,
we offered a GUARANTEED jackpot winner: come what may, someone WOULD win
£350.
After the usual mayhem
and madness of the main quiz, all the teams went into the Play Your
Cards Right playoff to determine who would go forward to the final.
 After 'helpful' cries
of "Higher!", "Lower!" and "FIX!!", two teams both scored twenty-one in
the Pontoon finale. The Retards and The Dimwits are both regular
competitors in The BIG Quiz, and rather than seeing someone walk away
empty-handed, the two teams chose to share the jackpot between them -
£175 each.
Congratulations to both
teams - not so retarded or dim-witted after all!
The BIG Quiz returns to
its normal format next week: four rounds of questions with a spot prize
for the winners of each round, then all teams going into the Play Your
Cards Right round for a chance to win the jackpot at the end of the
night. The chaos begins at 8.30pm next Monday, and there's a £300
jackpot to be won. It could be you.
The
BIG
Quiz; it IS big but it's NOT clever!
 On
Bank Holiday Monday, we held a Pig Roast in the beer garden at the rear
of the pub.
The weather gods smiled
on us, and for the most part we enjoyed a sunny afternoon. The
main attraction - the pig! - arrived at one o'clock. Having
already been on the spit for four hours, the smell of roast
pork drifting across the garden set taste bud on red alert, and
an hour later a queue formed as we began serving.
I think it's fair to
say that everyone enjoyed their al fresco lunch, many going back for
seconds - and sometimes thirds! There certainly wasn't much of the
pig left by five o'clock when we took it off the spit and cleared up.
We
were pleased to hear so many people complimenting us on the quantity,
quality and value-for-money of the food. Thank you to everyone
who made the day such a success - particularly to the staff who gave up
their Bank Holiday to serve and clear the feast.
This was our first
public pig roast, and we shall be arranging more in future. Check
our news page for dates and details in the weeks to come. We can

Sunday 19 June 2005 is
Fathers' Day, so why not say a big "Thank You" to Dad by bringing him
down for a slap-up Sunday lunch.
