It
doesn't seem like 12 months since I moved into The Fox. I
have thoroughly enjoyed my first year as a licensee. I'm not saying
it hasn't been hard work, because it certainly has, but it has all been
worthwhile.
Business is up more than 50% over The Fox's previous year's trading, and
I'd like to thank all of you who eat, drink and stay here for making us one
of the most popular pubs around. As a result, I have been able to
reinvest in the business, replacing and improving the facilities and
equipment we use to make your visit to The Fox a pleasant one. We
have four new refrigerators in the kitchen to be sure that the food we
serve is properly chilled and stored; a new ice machine; two new bottle
coolers; a new music system enabling us to provide a variety of
background music appropriate to the time and day; two new computerised
tills that allow us to serve you more quickly; new crockery, cutlery and
glassware with which to serve you; and 15 new benches in the
garden, ready for the the hot summer we always(?!) get in Steventon.
I'd
like to think that some of the increased business is due to the new
larger menus we have introduced; the special events we organise; the new
staff I have hired; the special pricing we offer from time to time.
But in fact I know that most of the new and increased business we have
been favoured with this year is the result of the hard work of the team
working with me. I am extremely lucky to have such committed,
conscientious and cheerful staff, and I'm sure you would like me to pass
on your thanks for the hard work they put in to give you the best time
possible when you are here.
Business is most definitely improving, but I have plenty more to do.
We shall be introducing a new children's menu in May;
a new restaurant menu in August; there is decorating to be done;
Christmas to be organised; and so on and so on. I have a long way
to go before I can look at The Fox and say that everything is as I want
it, but today, one year after I moved in, what I can say
is that I am proud of what we have achieved in a relatively short space
of time, and with your continued support we will do a lot more in the
next 12 months.
Well that's how I think things are going, but I'd like your opinion. If you have any
ideas or suggestions for how our facilities, products or services can be
improved, please
let me know. I want The Fox to be what you want
The Fox to be, so don't be shy; tell me what you'd like to see happening
at your local.
Thank you for you custom this year. See you at the bar!

Congratulations to The Dimwits, who last night won £350 in the Monday
night quiz. Almost ever-present participants, The Dimwits are Paul
and Nicky Stimpson of Reid Gardens, Steventon, and they were very
popular winners.
The weekly
quiz takes place every Monday evening, with spot prizes for the winners
of each of four rounds - TV & Film, Pot Luck, Sport and Music - with all
teams playing off for the chance to win the rolling jackpot. The
emphasis is on fun, so for a chance to emulate the Dimwits and walk off
with a pocketful of cash, join us next week for
The BIG Quiz.

Many
thanks to everyone who took part in our
BIG
Charity Quiz last Monday. Together we raised over £200 for
Comic Relief, so
congratulations to everyone who contributed and to those teams who won
some larger-than-normal prizes in the quiz.
Our next
major fund-raising event will be the annual Anthony Millbank Memorial
Aunt Sally Competition, which takes place every August Bank Holiday
Monday at The Fox. Anthony was a very popular Steventonian who
died from testicular cancer, and all money raised by the annual Aunt
Sally competition is donated to The MacMillan Cancer Trust.
Once
again, our thanks to everyone who took part in the events last Monday.
See you on Monday 29 August 2005 for more fun and mayhem.
