March 2004
31 March 2004
I
fulfilled a long-held ambition when I took ownership of The
Fox at the beginning of March 2004. I had enjoyed the pub both as
a local and a visitor for
past ten years, so I knew what a
wonderful place it is, and the six years I spent working here as a
barman for the previous licensee meant I understood what makes it such a popular
meeting place.
That's not
to say that time stands still. I have plans for the pub, of
course, and I'll outline these in the coming months, but don't expect to
see pool tables, jukeboxes or big-screen TVs because the one thing I
won't be changing is the atmosphere. If it ain't broke, don't fix
it!
What I hope to bring is
enthusiasm and energy to build on the strengths of what is a very
popular and much-loved local pub where business men and women can take a
working lunch,
families can have a good, value for money lunch or dinner, and anyone
can enjoy a filling bar snack and and drink, all in warm and friendly
surroundings.
I would
like to put on record my thanks to
Larry Hammans, the previous licensee,
for his assistance during the transition. The help he gave me
means I am confident he has passed the pub into safe hands, and he
remains a friend who will always be welcome whenever he comes home
to visit.
For the
past ten years The Fox has been my local. I hope you'll make it
your local too. I look forward to meeting you.
