Every
August Bank Holiday
...
... we hold a charity
Aunt Sally competition in memory
of Anthony Millbank, all money raised being donated to cancer charities.
Anthony 'Milly'
Millbank was a familiar face around the village for most of his short
life. He was raised in School Close and attended Larkmead School
in Abingdon. After leaving school he worked as a painter and
decorator for a number of local firms, finally joining a local double
glazing company as a glazier.
In 1992,
Milly was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and underwent an operation
to remove the tumour. That operation appeared to have succeeded,
but during a routine annual check-up five years later more cancerous
cells were found.
Milly
battled his cancer for more than ten years, and during that time
Radley Windows gave him much financial
support in his personal fight to return to work. But in 2002 Milly
died aged just 37, leaving his wife, Sharon, and his baby daughter,
Georgia.
Milly was
central in the work of building the Aunt Sally "throw" that we still use
in the garden at The Fox, so it is fitting that Aunt Sally is the
vehicle used to remember such a popular man and to raise funds used to
support those fighting cancer today.
The Fox
Inn is proud to help in this fight every August Bank Holiday Monday, and proud to be associated with the
memory of Anthony 'Milly' Millbank.
