The Famous
Janet Special
...
... the mother of all sandwiches, came into being back in
the 1980s, on an
evening when absences meant the team was short-staffed in the kitchen. Janet
was left to man the kitchen alone, and pragmatically offered to cook just one dish. It's the sandwich that
needs to be taken apart to be eaten; the sandwich that is a meal in itself;
the sandwich of all sandwiches; and to this day it remains a very popular
fixture on our bar menu: the Janet Special.
For those who would
like to try constructing one at home, the recipe is:
Take shredded roast
chicken, grated cheddar
cheese, grilled back bacon, a fried egg,
chips, and a hefty dollop of mayonnaise. Place all the
ingredients between two thick slices of crusty bread. Serve on
a LARGE plate with a sharp knife and fork.
